Bruce Broughton
is an Emmy Award-winning composer
who loves to write music for the movies.
He also likes to write music for kids.
Bruce has created a very special piece of music for the Los Angeles
Chamber Orchestra called Modular
Music II. He made this music just so that kids
could be part of composing in a very real way. Wait until you hear
how!
Kids are chosen to help
out with the composing.
First , they listen to 4
melodies played on the piano,
then they each choose a tune and any solo instrument to play that
tune. They might choose a violin,
a cello, a bassoon,
or even a xylophone (a funny
sounding keyboard which is played with little hammers, very cool!).
Music happens when the themes are played and joined by the orchestra.
Kids create the sounds together
with the musicians, they participate in making the music, their
own World
Premiere!
Bruce thinks
we should all learn to think about the color
of sound and how music is made with melody, rhythm, and patterns.
He lets kids have the fun
to shape and experiment with the creation
of music. Listen to what one kid said after being
part of the Modular Music
II:
“Your beautiful
lovely music opened my heart
and turned it into a music
box.”
